bill bodkin and logan j. fowler assemble to look at the avengers…
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. The ticket for this bad boy has already been purchased. I have been waiting for The Avengers for four long years, ever since we got that Easter Egg scene at the end of Iron Man where Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., questions Tony Stark/Iron Man about how he thinks he’s the only superhero in the world. Well he isn’t. Iron Man is set to team up with a whole slew of superheroes come this May, including Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye in a massive spectacle that a summer blockbuster was made for. My most anticipated film for the biggest movie season, The Avengers is no doubt going to be a fun ride of epic proportions, and a box office bonanza for sure. I simply cannot wait. Is it May 4th yet? –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. Small, intimate, independent dramas like The Avengers always make for a good time at the cinema. The nuance, the ennui, the subtly just really hit me in the recesses of my soul. The Avengers is going to make Merchant Ivory films blush in embarrassment that they couldn’t execute a period drama like this.
All jokes aside — The Avengers is one of the top five films I’ve been waiting for this year (The Hobbit, Django Unchained, The Dark Knight Rises and Snow White & The Huntsman being the others) and with the excellent Joss Whedon at the helm, I have no doubt this film is going to be fun and entertaining as hell. With an ensemble film like this you have to worry that with all the star power, that it’s going to be a jumbled mess. But I have a lot of faith in Whedon — he produced brilliance on TV with Buffy and he proved with a small budget he can produce really fun movies like Serenity. So I think he’ll be able to balance out all the characters, give everyone their moment to shine and also add in the right amount of drama and comedy.
This film will be loud and the action will be told at a near dizzying pace, but I have no fears that it’ll wander into the stupidity and absurdity of the Transformers films. Also, with a cast like this, it’s hard to go wrong I’m particularly interested to see the third incarnation of the Hulk, the always underrated Mark Ruffalo. So on or about May 4th, I’ll definitely be ‘assembling’ at my local cinema for The Avengers. –BB
