Pop-Press: Brick + Mortar, Surfer Blood Rock Hurley Party

the newsroom breaks the news on a secret show…

The clothing line Hurley is kicking off the school year in style with the 2012 “Hurley Rocks You Back to School” program, a series of “secret” late-night concerts featuring indie-rock band Surfer Blood. This year’s concert series begins on August 11th in Asbury Park, opening the night is, Brick+Mortar. Tickets are available through participating retailers now through August 11th. Customers who make a $50 purchase will receive 2 wristbands for the show featuring only the date, time and a special “Hurley Rocks You Back To School” RSVP URL (Hurley.com/RocksYouBackToSchool). Once logged in and RSVP’d, consumers will then receive information regarding the event venue and additional details.

This Asbury-based event is a private invite-only show and will be held at one of the area’s most famed venues (we’re sure you can figure out where), there will not be tickets sold at the door so you gotta hit up the website or participating retailers for tickets.

The event will be hosted by skateboard and BMX legend, Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla. Some of your may remember “Rooftop” from his run on the reality series LA Ink.

And we highly recommend that you do because the two bands rocking this show are two of the brightest on the scene.

Surfer Blood, who we last saw in Absury opening for The Pixies in the fall, has this crazy good indie vibe to them. Mixing a breezy beach-inspired sound with the gritty electronic hotness of today’s indie rock scene, Surfer Blood’s sound is intoxicating. It’s the type of sound that could be blasted from the hip shore city of Asbury or the sweltering hipster haven of Williamsburg.

Opening the night will be local favorites Brick+Mortar. If you’ve haven’t listened to these guys yet, make it a point to do so because it’s only a matter of time before they explode onto the national scene. The electronic alt-rock duo provides a groove-heavy, percussive and anthemic sound that really sticks with you. Recently the band has made a lot of noise with their Tarantino-esque music video “Bangs” which was recently featured on Vice Magazine’s website.
