Top of the World’s reggae vibes ease the mind for your listening pleasure. Just kick back and let the album lead you from its’ rhythmic beats to a smooth jazz-like baseline. Controlled, melodic vocals and reggae undertones compliment each other coming full circle into a whirlwind of psychedelic beats. Transporting your mind elsewhere, Top of the World is Slightly Stoopid’s most mature sound to date.
This is the band’s seventh studio album, their first since their 2008 release Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid, and they haven’t missed a beat. Although a non-stop tour schedule and the opening of their own recording studio (Stoopid Records) was responsible for the four year gap, the ganja-loving advocates picked up right where they left off in perfect progression.
Top of the World features a vivid cast of guest vocals including my personal favorite G. Love, Barrington Levy, Angelo Moore of Fishbone and many other veterans on the music scene. The input of artists such as the legendary Don Carlos of Black Uhuru seems to add to the progression of maturity over the years bringing the music back to its original reggae roots. Immediately overwhelmed with good vibes, this album comes complete with a refreshing feeling which cannot be overlooked on tracks such as “Hiphoppablues” and “Don’t Stop”.
The soothing beats make this album a perfect summer pick for a day by the pool or a backyard barbecue. Just envision the sun setting over the ocean, an ice cold beer in hand with a track like “Rhythm Streets” playing on the stereo will wash the stress of any day away.
