Asbury Park is one of my favorite spots in New Jersey and a big reason for that is the great music. I’ve seen shows at numerous venues there including: The Stone Pony, Convention Hall, The Saint and the Wonder Bar. Asbury Lanes is a prominent local venue that I’ve been hearing about for years but never had the chance to actually check out. This past Thursday I finally caught a show there by a band called JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound.
JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound hail from Chicago and have such a refreshing sound. Their level of musicianship is very professional and JC’s vocals are incredible. I had never heard their music before the show, but I was thoroughly entertained throughout the set. In my opinion, they sounded like a more raw and soulful version of Bruno Mars.
Not only did JC Brooks have a great set of pipes, but his showmanship was top notch. He controlled the show and performed as if he was playing an arena. The Uptown Sound were super tight as a band and were all great at their instruments. Overall, these guys really killed it. I hope people start taking notice of the Uptown Sound because they need to come back to Jersey as soon as possible.
