Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. In a surprising turn of events, I’m going to see a movie about Superman opening day. Why is this so surprising? Well, I’m not a big fan of Superman, you see. I prefer my comic book heroes flawed, and Supes is just kind of … well … perfect. However, director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) and producer Christopher Nolan, whose name is synonymous with Batman at this point, have tried to bring Kal-El more down to earth (although he can still fly). I’m very curious about the outcome of this product, and therefore Man of Steel has already earned my money. –LJF
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided. Theater. Like LJF, Superman has never been a comic book hero I’ve been head over heels for. Yes, I have seen the movies including the disastrous Superman Returns a few years ago, but none of them have really bowled me over. I think with Man of Steel that’s all going to change. The cast is incredible including, the absolutely brilliant Michael Shannon as Zod. You just know he’s going to tear every scene up with gusto and ferocity. I’m also pretty intrigued by where they could take the story of Superman. With Christopher Nolan having his hands in this you know it won’t be paint by numbers. My only concern is if Zach Snyder can direct a complete film. He’s a visual visionary but inspiring top performances from his cast isn’t his strongest suit. –BB
