Bill Bodkin, Logan J. Fowler and Luke Kalamar look at the brand new trailer released at San Diego Comic-Con.
Bill Bodkin: Say what you will about The Walking Dead, but there’s one thing you can’t deny — the trailers for every new season is awesome. Whether you hate the series, love the series or it has let you down in some way, you can’t deny the the chills that run up your spine when the series drops a new trailer.
As someone who’s been a fan of everything the series has done (and to be honest I have not read the comics, so my scope of TWD knowledge comes only from the show) this trailer gave me those aforementioned chills. The concept of “an enemy within” really intrigues me. Is it a new member of the community or is it The Governor himself causing problems? Also, the dissension between Rick and Daryl could be one hell of a story arc. Throw in the walkers attacking in hordes now, there’s no doubt there will be tons of zombie action to keep our bloodlust satiated.
Logan J. Fowler: Oh man. While the second half of The Walking Dead: Season 3 was kind of a let down, the fourth season looks intense. A bunch of new characters are seen in this trailer, and Tyrese finally joins the gang, who I hope will whoop serious ass. The only thing I’m worried about is that this trailer is so good that it showed all the highlights of the season, but I’m holding out hope that there is still some surprises in store. Along with that, I’m also hoping that the writers fixed some of the horrible dialogue and character choices that plagued the show since the beginning, Whatever happens, I’ll be there to tune in. Don’t let me down, AMC.
Luke Kalamar: Any and all concerns I had about the future of The Walking Dead following the mind blowing (and at times disappointing, there’s no escaping that) Season 3 were completely washed away last week with the premiere of the Season 4 trailer. Holy shit it looks amazing. This is the first look we get of the walkers actually being a threat again. The zombie danger was overshadowed significantly in Season 3 to allow The Governor (David Morrissey) to shine, but now they’re back in the forefront and more life threatening than ever. The biggest danger zombies pose is when their numbers grow too high in a single place, and it looks like Season 4 will be all about that. This is most likely the result of The Governor’s assault in the Season 3 Finale. Plus, the ending of Season 3 left the door WIDE open for an “enemy inside” story so that was definitely expected. We also got a really significant look at newcomer Bob Stookey (Lawrence Gillard Jr.) for the first time. Stookey was a major character during The Governor story in the comics (he was also middle–aged and white) and it’s clear that he’ll have a significant role in Season 4 events, which is great. The scene near the end of Bob, Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and Michonne (Danai Gurira) fighting a growing horde of walkers looks incredible too. The Governor’s absence from this trailer is very bizarre though, especially considering Morrissey’s promotion to Series Regular. Where IS he?! Bottom line, Season 4 already looks off the hook and I cannot WAIT for the premiere.
Side note: This is probably nothing, but the scene with Michonne looking at a map took a definite focus on the city of Macon, GA. Macon is where the protagonist of Season 1 of The Walking Dead: The Game, Lee Everett, is from and where his parent’s own a drug store. I’m not saying he’ll be in the show, but this would be a fantastic opportunity to throw in some connecting Easter Eggs like the very same drug store or Clementine’s hat. Just saying!
