Last weekend I attended the first ever Special Edition: NYC at the Javits Centers in New York. It was created by ReedPop, the company behind some of the most famous annual events in the country including such the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) & New York Comic Con (NYCC). Special Edition: NYC isn’t like another other major convention out there because it is trying to put the focus back on what started comic cons in the first place; the comics. The two day event was filled with vendors, major and indie comic labels, and of course cosplayers. Die-hard fans of comic books and pop culture gather to these conventions not just to meet their favorite artists, or to buy books. They get dressed up as their favorite characters, walk the halls of the convention, and they also get their pictures taken by pretty much everyone. I cosplayed for the first time last year and it was a lot of fun. I didn’t get the chance to make a costume in time this year, but I did snap some pictures of the best cosplay from the first annual Special Edition: NYC.
