Magic Man – Before the Waves
After seeing Magic Man open up for WALK THE MOON last year, I was really excited to hear their full album. Then I forgot about it until about a week before it’s release. It was available to stream early on Hypem and I jumped at the chance to give it a first listen. I am incredibly surprised that they aren’t a household name yet. Their electronic sound is very unique, while lead singer Alex Caplow’s voice is reminiscent of Brandon Flowers of The Killers. The five piece from Rhode Island create a energetic sound that can perfectly fit in both the indie alternative genre and top 40.
Their debut album, Before the Waves, is great introduction to the band that separates them from just being an opening act for bands of the same genera. Each track is better than the last with no duds on the entire release. Songs like “Paris,” and “Waves,” are destined for radio success, while songs like “Texas,” and “Out of “Mind” are sure to be crowd favorites for their upcoming tour with Smallpools and WATERS. I highly recommending picking up the debut album from Magic Man, so you can tell your friends you listened to them before they got big. -Erin Mathis
