Royal Blood – Royal Blood
If you enjoy a little bit of an edge, a little bit of toughness to your indie alternative, then listening to Royal Blood is an absolute must. You might’ve heard them recently soundtracking commercials and even a trailer for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD with their amazing single, ‘Out of the Black,’ but until you hear their self-titled record, you won’t know just how amazing this band truly is. First off, the band is a duo. A DUO I tell you. Yes, that sound comes from two players. Their sound is a muscular, bombastic adrenaline spike to the chest combined with perfect amounts of fuzz and haze. Think Alice in Chains meets Corrosion of Conformity.
The album has thunderous, rip roaring guitar work and a serious aura of badassery surrounding it. But don’t think this is something thrashed out metal outfit. The vocals of Michael Kerr are amazing — at times evoking a more polished Jack White. His harmonious yet formidable pipes are the straw that stirs the heavy drink of royal blood. If you’re one of those alt fans who miss the harder and heavier work bands like Alice in Chains or Soundgarden produced in the 90s, this will satiate your thirst. -Bill Bodkin
