Plot: A family reunites at a new vacation home in the country to celebrate their parents’ anniversary. Their celebration is cut short when weapon wielding masked intruders attack and begin to kill them off one by one.
Day two of 31 Days of Horror goes to my favorite horror release of 2013, You’re Next.
In terms of home invasion films, You’re Next is, in my opinion, one of the best, combining scares, humor and pure brutality. The animal masks are frightening in their simplicity and go from childish to horrible in an instant when splattered with blood, not unlike the family’s anniversary dinner.
The film reunites A Horrible Way to Die director Adam Wingard with alumni Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz and up and coming horror star AJ Bowen. It also introduced us to Sharni Vinson and included big horror names such as Barbara Crampton and director Ti West.
This all horror star cast comes together to pull of some of the most hilarious and brutal deaths I have had the pleasure of watching in a long time. One, in particular, involving razor wire had me laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe. That being said, I do have a twisted sense of humor and others may not find it as funny as I but, then again, they might.
You’re Next is an all-around fun and creative film, earning itself 10/10 with me. Read Ann Hale’s original review of You’re Next.
