Lauren Stern: The Veronica Mars Movie

When I look back at all the TV to movie adaptions of the last few years, nothing has brought me more joy and happiness than the Veronica Mars movie. The film, which resulted after the very successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign, brought Veronica Mas back to Neptune, where she regained her love for private investigating. Of course, Mars also abandoned her boyfriend Piz, and re-kindled her romance with her high school boyfriend, which at this point, I can’t even try to understand anymore. I get that she essentially has no self control when it comes to Logan, but come on, #TeamPiz all the way.

Anyway, what makes The Veronica Mars movie so unique is the way Marshamallows around the globe came together and skyrocketed the show to immense popularity. Since the film debuted in March, creator Rob Thomas has written two novels and a Dick spin-off has debuted on the CW Seed. There’s also a strong possibility for a reboot, which includes the first three seasons and some brand new episodes. Basically, at this point, the show is totally unstoppable, which is a huge change from the it’s run on television in the late 00’s.

When the Veronica Marks kickstarter launched, I have to admit I was a little bit skeptical and uneasy about how it would impact the film industry. I don’t regret looking at it with a critical eye, but I can’t deny how happy I am with the results. Though many film makers came out of the woodwork to try the Veronica Mars method of crowd-funding (looking at you – Zach Braff), I don’t think anyone has or will come close to how massive this show has become. The only way I can see a TV to movie adaption reaching this success if The OC is thrown into the mix. I know for certain I’d buy a t-shirt or a keychain just to get Seth Cohen back into my life.
