1. True Detective
Out of all the amazing shows that aired in 2014, True Detective has received the most notoriety. Honestly, it deserves every bit of praise. The writing was consistently lauded, the set design was gorgeous, and the acting was unparalleled. Season 1 leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson gave career defining performances and Rust Cohle’s “Time is a flat circle” speech made huge waves. The show kept you guessing too, all the way to the very end when Rust and Marty successfully killed The Yellow King after decades of searching. The only negative thing I can possibly say about this program is the pacing. I like the slow burn approach to a story, but True Detective took this to the extreme. It was totally worth watching though and I obviously cannot recommend it any higher. Season 2, which will feature a new cast lead by Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell, has a high bar to reach.
