Savages at The Mercury Lounge
Leave it to a gang of four fierce musicians to takeover New York at the beginning of the New Year. Savages, a London-based band comprised of Jehnny Beth (vocals), Ayse Hassan (bass), Fay Milton (drums) and Gemma Thompson (guitar) played nine sold out shows (Baby’s All Right, Mercury Lounge and Saint Vitus) during their month-long residency in New York. The post-punk band, as they have been described, formed at the end of 2011 and released their highly praised debut album ‘Silence Yourself’ in 2013. I was fortunate enough to catch the last show of their residency at Mercury Lounge. They played some new material along with some favorites and a few improvisations were made to the set list because that’s the beauty of a live show. So, if you could not snag a ticket or come out of hibernation to catch one of their shows, I strongly encourage you to do so in the future. They are here and their music can not be ignored. Check out photos from their second to last show that was far more impressive than the Snowpocalypse of 2015.
