Trailer Tuesday: Insurgent

Trailer Tuesday

Release Date: March 20th, 2015

Starring: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Maggie Q

Directed by: Robert Schwentke (RED, Flightplan, The Time Traveler’s Wife, R.I.P.D.)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I watched the first movie and I could not stand parts of it. The quiet rip off of the Hunger Games is extremely dry and not really entertaining. Plus it made me hate Miles Teller. Thank God for Whiplash. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: The first movie had a weak trailer that did no justice for the film and made it look like a watered down Hunger Games, please let the second one step up its game. Will we see what’s beyond the parameters of the society or are we going to spend 90 minutes of our life still battling Kate Winslet’s evil character?-AM

Rate the Trailer: 2.5 out of 5. This movie looks a little bit more interesting then its predecessor, but I’m not going to go shout that out from the rooftops. Action looks decent I guess, but I’m sorry, Woodley is no action star. This is nothing against her, I do like her a lot, but she feels out of place in these movies. Maybe this movie will prove me wrong, I don’t know. Thing is, the surrounding elements of the first movie are what completely drag it down, it’s so heavy in its context that you could get lost. Hopefully the sequel will lighten things up a bit. At least Hunger Games knows how to have a little bit of fun. -LJF

Rate the Trailer: 3.5 out of 5. We will see more of Kate Winslet, but no complaints because she’s winning as the main antagonist. The second installment of the Divergent series has stepped up the fight scenes and thrown in some more well-known cast members like Octavia Spencer and Daniel Dae Kim, factors that pique my interest and they make me want to go see it. I want to know who are these new characters and what’s going on with them outside the leading storyline. Will they lead us beyond the walls?-AM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. My girlfriend is in the process of reading these books, or has read them all, either way, I know she’s finished the literal Insurgent. So I will probably watch this not by choice, but by default. God, please be better than the first one, that’s all I ask. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. The scenes are giving me theater nostalgia but I’m not convinced that it will deliver. If I’m spending a lot of money to sit in a movie theater with my favorite high-priced snacks and possibly chatty hormonal teenagers and obnoxious elderlies who take calls instead of letting it go to voicemail – I need a guarantee! Unfortunately, the trailer is just entertaining – not powerful enough to make me feel confident in it.. Hopefully, the new director and writers will make me regret not seeing it in the theater.-AM
