First Time I Saw It: I saw Step Brothers in the theater about a month after it was released.
Why I Love It: Step Brothers is absurd. The idea of two forty-year-old men still living with their parents is stupid on its own, but when you make them both physically men and mentally children, it’s hilarious. They have never had to grow up, they have never had to share and now they are thrown into a situation where they have to do both.
I love Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly together because they bring out the ridiculousness in one another. There is hardly a moment in the entire film where I am not laughing hysterically at how idiotic they both are.
Signature Ferrell Moment: John C. Reilly’s character, Dale, has a drum set that he tells Brennan (Ferrell) never to touch. Naturally, Brennan HAS to mess with them. When he gets called out for it, Brennan marches himself upstairs and rubs his nuts all over Dale’s drums. This results in a massive fight that drags out into the front yard where the entire neighborhood watches as the fight progressively gets worse.
To me, this is a signature Ferrell moment. Of course, he doesn’t rub his nuts all over objects in all of his movies but it’s the ridiculous fight and show of power that he does in several of his films. We see this happen in Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory and The Campaign. No matter how many times I see it happen, it never seizes to be funny. –Ann Hale
