The Muppets Return to Primetime Television This Fall
It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights It’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight.
Yes, The Muppets are returning to primetime television this fall on ABC, for their new series simply titled, The Muppets.
The network has premiered the first trailer for the series in conjunction with the television upfronts this week.
The series which will debut this fall will not adhere to the format of the original Muppet Show. It will be a ‘contemporary, documentary-style show.’ According to ABC, ‘For the first time ever, a series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, breakups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires. This is a more adult Muppet show, for “kids” of all ages.’
The series is being executive produced and written by Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory), Bob Kushell (FX’s Anger Management). Randall Einhorn (FX’s Wilford), and longtime Muppet producers Bill Barretta and Debbie McClellan also serve as executive producers.
In classic Muppets style, this series seems to be a tongue-in-cheek, wink-and-nod satire of the Hollywood. This time around it’ll be the the current sitcom format. Throughout the trailer the sitcom format is lampooned, and done so brilliantly by The Muppet gang.
In terms of excitement — if you grew up on The Muppets you’re probably chomping at the bit to see this series.
