Pop-Break Live: Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington at The Wellmont Theater

North Jersey entered the Wicked Garden as Stone Temple Pilots rolled into The Wellmont Theater at the end of April.

Stone Temple Pilots is now fronted by Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and the man is a revelation behind the microphone. He has the same vocal cadences of STP’s original frontman Scott Weiland, but adds his own edgy flare to each and every song. Bennington is able to convey the fragility and sentimentality in all of STP’s classic ballads and mid-tempo songs. But once the band kicks into high gear, Bennington is able to electrify audiences with his renditions of “Sex Type Thing” and “Crackerman.”

The band is utterly energized by Bennington’s vocals. When we saw the band in 2013 when they re-opened Starland Ballroom, it was like the band was reborn, bathed in the energy Bennington brought to his vocal duties. The energy has not died at all. They were absolutely on fire the entire show.

Pop-Break’s Saidy Lopez caught the band in action for Pop-Break.com.
