With NXT putting on an outstanding show, it is of no surprise how NXT is becoming more integrated into WWE programming. We will see Kevin Owens face John Cena at Elimination Chamber, and this might be the first time the NXT Championship will be see on WWE TV. It was only since the debut of Seth Rollins WWE acknowledged former NXT Champions on TV.
What more fans are talking about, is the NXT Women’s Championship match which stole the show, and has been said to have been better than any Diva’s match in the past ten years. Crazy, right?
This is how NXT, integrating the indy feeling into a mainstream environment can be considered a future of WWE.
Speaking of futures, the big question is, does Impact Wrestling have a future. There are rumors and stories abound the internet stating Destination America has canceled TNA/Impact programming. However, an interest turn is a statement made by Impact’s legal team, warning off anyone who dares talk cancelation or even go so far as to predict the “Death of TNA.”
“It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us.”
I generally don’t link to a dirtsheet, but this has Dave Meltzer’s statement in full. – http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/581263-report-destination-america-cancelling-impact-wrestling
Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins star and new writer for the company has even gone on the internet to say this whole this is a “sloppy angle” and Meltzer himself is “being worked.”
What is shocking the most, is how this whole debacle was trending on Facebook and Twitter for nearly two days. I don’t think TNA/Impact was ever trending this much. The attention they are receiving now is probably the best press ever. Only problem is what is true and what is not. Is TNA canceled on Destination America? Are they on the verge of closing?
To be honest, until an official statement is made by either Impact or Destination America, we will never know for sure. For people thinking this is the death of Impact, that has been said for years, yet here they are, still alive and kicking well. Hell, I remember back in the ’90s when WCW was kicking WWE’s ass in TV ratings, and WWE had moved to TNN, people thought Vince McMahon was losing millions. Couldn’t be further than the truth.
No. No R-Truth here.
I do think it is a bit weird Impact would go as far as to publicly threaten legal action against anyone who talks about the possible cancelation or company closing. They never did that before, so why now? Could it be because of possible truth or did a minor statement get completely blown out of proportion?
With Samoa Joe, the Ring of Honor and TNA mainstay, suddenly showing up on NXT, many wonder if this will be a continuing trend? Will Impact lose talent to WWE/NXT, or what about Jeff Jarrett and his Global Force Wrestling?
The point is, let’s all calm down, wait and see. This is the sports-entertainment business. It’s almost like a comic book. As Captain America said in Avengers: Age of Ultron, “You get killed… Walk it off.”
