According to a report by Variety, Cate Blanchett is teaming up with Aaron Sorkin for her next project, a biopic of TV icon Lucille Ball.
The film- which is being produced by Ball’s two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.- will focus on her 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, who also played her onscreen husband in the iconic sitcom I Love Lucy. While no director is currently attached to the project, Jenna Block will develop the project at the Sony-based Escape Artists.
Already a two-time Oscar winner, Blanchett will be a prominent figure in the upcoming awards season, with starring roles in the Dan Rather drama Truth (due out October 16th) and the romantic period piece Carol (set for November 27th). Sorkin is also set for a busy fall, as he wrote the screenplay for Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, which will be released on October 9th.
The story was first reported by The Wrap. No release date was announced, but a late-2016 or 2017 bow is to be expected.
