It’s truly one of the great original ideas.
Speak Into My Good Eye, a fantastic website dedicated to covering the independent and the original of New Jersey, are bringing their legendary 24 Hour Songwriting Challenge back on September 12.
The concept is simple, bands have 24 hours to write and record a brand new song. Last year, of the bands who participated, thirty-three made Speak Into My Good Eye’s exclusive 24 Hour Songwriting Challenge compilation. This album was made available on a pay-what-you-want Bandcamp page with all proceeds given to local charities.
This year, the competition has expanded its geographic reach as artists from New York and Pennsylvania are encouraged to join (E-mail speakimge@gmail.com to participate). This year’s recipient of the proceeds from the album will be the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
The competition will kick off with a special show at The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park on September 12. The show is presented in conjunction with Dark City Entertainment and will feature a line-up of: YJY, Roy Orbitron, Thee Idea Men, The Paper Jets and Julian Fulton.
Cover is $10 and is for ages 21+.
