8. The Walk

I was more excited about this movie earlier in the year, but it lost some luster. It’s still Robert Zemeckis though, one of my all time favorite directors. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a great choice for the lead, and the story itself is certainly worthy of a big screen adaptation. My biggest fear is that Zemeckis will be more concerned with the 3D of it all. As great a filmmaker as he is, he sometimes has George Lucas syndrome in getting more excited about the technology. We saw this when he tried to push that Polar Express Motion Capture Animation whatever crap. Hopefully, this movie can stand on its own without the gimmicks.

Oscar Alert! There’s an outside chance for Best Director, and maybe Best Actor, but I’m guessing the 3D I-MAX shenanigans will relegate this to mostly technical awards.
