4) Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – this is a legit Star Wars movie. Yes, it carries over problems the other prequels have, but the difference is heart. I was drawn into the world. I cared about the decisions Anakin made. We finally got a fantastic villain. It expands the philosophies of the light side and the dark. While this one probably has the most action out of any Star Wars movie, it still takes a back seat to the story and characters. That’s all you can ask for with any movie.
While the first half is solid, it’s the second half that is a pure adrenaline rush. Everything after Anakin becomes Darth Vader is tight and emotionally powerful storytelling. The mask being put on Vader is extremely well directed, and the conflict and friendship between Obi-Wan and Anakin is on full display, after being done so poorly in the previous film.
Aside from some dialogue tweaks, I’m not sure how much better this film could have been. The prequels are what they are, but Episode III at least validates them as necessary components to the Star Wars saga.
Best Scene: While I love the scene where Palpatine gets into the secrets of the dark side, I have to go with the Anakin/Obi-Wan duel. It’s over the top, insane, but completely driven by a powerful conflict between two titans of the Star Wars universe.
