2. (tie) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) (Logan Fowler)
Why I Love It: I never would’ve guessed that when the MCU began that a sequel to the Captain America film would be my favorite movie in the franchise. However, the content of the film surpassed my expectations. Despite having some crazy, epic sequences, the street level battles are what made this film stand out among the rest. The implosion of SHIELD in the process sent shock waves through the universe that completely shocked audiences. This movie was a turning point for the franchise and because of that, it’s original attempts at doing something different make it number one in my eyes. And the lack of infinity stones or MacGuffins make the adventure even better.
Favorite Line: “I’m with you to the end of the line, pal.” Uttered by both Bucky (in a flashback sequence) and Steve Rogers (when he’s holding back from fighting the Winter Soldier), this is not a throwaway line; best pals since childhood, Steve refuses to acknowledge Buck’s turn to the dark side. Therefore, Buck ends up sparing Cap’s life because of Steve’s self control. Ultimately, these words help to transition into the new relationship between old friends in Captain America: Civil War.
Favorite Scene: The fight between the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes and Cap/Steve Rogers is intense and gripping. In a cinematic world where there are gods, massive green monsters, and flying dudes in metal suits, this is a white knuckle brawl between two former best friends. Grounded in realism, the man-to-man combat draws your attention every time.
