Pre-Trailer Thoughts: It was going to happen eventually; DC is trying to create their own cinematic universe that mirrors Marvel, but instead of building their own franchise successfully over several films, introducing us to character, they are pretty much throwing everyone into one movie and expecting it will stick. The titular superheroes are probably the two biggest comic book characters of all time; they have to stick the landing on this one in order for things to work out for the long game. This also includes pretty much introducing every future member of the Justice League in one movie. Oh boy. -LJF
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I really did not enjoy Man of Steel, and I find Zack Snyder’s directing to be tiresome after about five minutes. I’m going to be very surprised if I can handle another two and a half hours of it. After the last trailer wound up giving away the outline of the entire movie, as well as the reveal that Doomsday would be part of the film’s final battle, I wonder if there is even anything new this trailer can tell us to entice people. I might be coming into this from a pessimistic angle, but I am going to be very surprised if I like this trailer, or this movie, at all. – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 3 out of 5. I’ve been back and forth on these trailers. The first one was good. Second one was awful. The final one, shown in this article, was good. Despite that, I feel like I’ve seen too much already. Honestly, at this point, I don’t know what to think anymore. I’m really only interested in this film to see Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne. For a film like this, you think a geek like me could muster up some sort of excitement. However, I’m not the biggest Superman fan and this film just seems REALLY CROWDED for a first time effort (of introducing the universe). Can you tell I’m worried?-LJF
Rate the Trailer: 3 out of 5. The fight at the beginning looked like it was ripped straight from the Batman: Arkham games which is a very good thing. The issue I have is that beyond showing off that great scene, this trailer really didn’t have much more to offer. We already know about Wonder Woman’s appearance, Superman’s status as a God, and Batman’s distrust of him. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor still feels like he’s playing the character way too over the top and eccentric, a far departure than the more measured portrayals of the character in the past. In the end it might have just been best to skip the previous trailer entirely and just show this. This still could have gotten people excited without spoiling half of the movie. – JTM
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. I know I should go see this in theaters but unless word of mouth is positive, I’m not sure. Rental is a sure thing once released on home video but I am not hyped for this film like I should be. -LJF
Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? Undecided. I will probably only wind up seeing this in theaters if my friends are really, really adamant about watching it. Otherwise, this is the sort of movie that is exacerbating my fatigue of superhero movies. 150 minutes of destruction porn and overly grim and dark characterizations of classic characters makes me more exhausted than excited. – JTM
