News reports have been surfacing that Live Nation may be in final negational talks to purchase a majority stake in Founders Entertainment aka the big time producers of the majorly successful Governors Ball held in New York.
This marks a strong move on Live Nations part as New York becomes a breeding ground for fierce competition in the concert world. Live Nations current competitor in the battle for New York concert supremacy is AEG Live.
While Founders Entertainment has been an independent producer for Governors Ball since its creation, the move on Live Nations part is not completely unforeseen. The two companies have partnered up before in the past, creating and producing last year’s Farmborough, the city’s first country music festival.
While news has not been confirmed on whether or not this buy will happen, Founders Entertainment has proven to be an extremely successful independent endeavor and only great things can be foreseen for this flourishing company.
The annual summer concert will be taking place this year June 3-5 at Randalls Island, New York.
Headliners this summer include Kanye West, The Killers, and The Strokes.
Governors Ball started in 2011 as a one-day festival on Governors Island and featured Big Boi, Empire of the Sun, and Pretty Lights as headliners. Opening performers included future hitmakers Outasight and Mac Miller. Governors Ball 2011 amassed the highest attendance of any event in the history of Governors Island. The festival would move to Randall’s Island in 2012 and expanded to two days. The festival made the move to three days in 2013.
