New Power Rangers costumes revealed, more “alien” and “mature”
The first official looks at the Power Rangers costumes for the upcoming reboot. Production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) tells Entertainment Weekly, “It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience no gain new fans.”
The new Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids, chosen by destiny, who discover they are the only ones who can save both their town of Angel Grove and the planet. The cast includes Dacre Montgomery (A Few Less Men) as the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott (The 33) as the Pink Ranger, Becky G (Empire) as the Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin (Monster Hunt) as the Black Ranger. The reboot is directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac),written by John Gatins (Real Steel) and is currently shooting in Vancouver.
