This weekend Independence Day: Resurgence opens in theaters across the world. The film is coming out roughly 20 years to the date of the original Independence Day film; so we decided to look back at the year was 1996 in film. Turns out, this was an absolutely amazing year for movies. Big blockbusters abounded, indie films hit it out of the park. For me, I lived at the movies in 1996, and one of the most exciting days of that year was undoubtedly when I walked into the Hadley Cinemas in South Plainfield, NJ to see the original Independence Day open up.
So, we charged our staff with the duty of voting on the Top 10 Movies of 1996. It’s funny how some of those taking part in this column were either entering high school, or just entering the world. It makes this editor-in-chief feel wicked old.
Regardless, here it is…The Top 10 Movies of 1996…as voted by the staff of Pop-Break.
