Written by Logan J. Fowler and Justin Matchick
Release Date: March 3rd, 2017
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Stephan Merchant
Director: James Mangold (The Wolverine, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma)
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Knowing Hugh Jackman was going to have to call it quits as one of the X-Men’s most (if not THE) popular characters was inevitable, but it’s crazy to think that time is nearing. The actor has done a fantastic job as Wolverine, becoming synonymous with the Canadian infused with adamantium. Stepping in the role for the 9th and last time, there’s a lot of hope that Logan can end the actor’s portrayal of Wolveine on a high note. -LJF
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: With Logan poised to be the final appearance of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, expectations are at an all time high. The X-Men film series has been wildly uneven over the past decade and a half, but James Mangold’s The Wolverine was one of the better moments of the franchise. His return as a director, as well as the promise of an R-rating, have got me excited already. – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5. Like Mangold’s solid but flawed The Wolverine, Logan looks to putthings on a smaller scale, which is a nice counterpart to all the heavy action of the 15 year X-Men franchise. Not only is this Jackman’s last go round as Wolverine, but Patrick Stewart is also throwing in the towel as Professor Charles Xavier, so audiences will definitely be anticipating some great moments between the two. That being said, the trailer keeps it tight, with a dreary world view of a future with minimal mutants. The storytelling aspect looks to be strong, and with an R rating, fans can look forward to a true Wolverine unleashed! I know I am. -LJF
Rate the Trailer: 5 out of 5. The choice of Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt” is a perfect compliment for a perfect trailer. The appearance of an older and more world-weary Wolverine is only topped by the sight of a frail and near-death Professor Xavier. The trailer sets up the grim and harrowing vision of what the future has in store for the mutants, showing off a much darker tone than anything we’ve really seen from the X-Men franchise before. – JTM
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. I’ve seen every one of the X-Men spin off film sin theaters, including the original Wolverine film, which was abysmal. The Wolverine fixed a lot of the problems from the first movie, but it still had a few bumps. Can “Logan” be the best of the three? It’s possible, but still, no matter the case, I don’t want to miss out on Jackman’s last go round as the character. It’s totally theater material. -LJF
Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? Theater. X-Men movies have been hit-or-miss, but I have a lot of faith that this will be a nice sendoff for an iconic character. Wouldn’t want to miss out on this one. – JTM
