Pre- Trailer Thoughts: I’m not a history buff, so when I first heard of Dunkirk, I was not aware of the impact it had in our world’s past. Still, with the name Christopher Nolan attached, of course I was curious to see what the director would bring to the “war film” genre. I’ve seen most of Nolan’s films, and loved each one that I did see without fail, so I’m assuming this one won’t let me down either. -LJF
Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Christopher Nolan has more than cemented himself as one of Hollywood’s top filmmakers over the past decade, and he now sets his sights on World War 2. I’m a huge fan of his work, so I’m going into this trailer already hyped up. – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5 The bleak atmosphere is something Nolan has become known for, and using some usual suspects seems to have its place here as well, with the casting of Murphy and Hardy. What is shown in the trailer utilizes dramatic tension quite well, as the director knows hows to balance that and spectacle with the greatest of ease. That being said, Dunkirk looks pretty incredible. -LJF
Rate the Trailer: 5 out of 5. It’s crazy that the sight of Harry Styles drowning is only the fourth or fifth coolest thing about this trailer. But seriously, this looks stunning just based off the gorgeous cinematography. A cast of established British actors, including Kenneth Branaugh, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy, helps solidify this as one of the most highly anticipated films of 2017. It’s remarkable how little this trailer really tells us about the film but the power of suggestion is enough to convey the enormity of what our characters face. – JTM
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided Theater. Except for the summer 2017 Marvel Studios Movies, I really don’t think I have much on the radar. Dunkirk will easily be able to fit into my schedule, making for a good entry among all the bona fide blockbusters. -LJF
Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? Theater. This is definitely must-see territory for me. There’s a very good chance I’ll try and see it in IMAX as well. – JTM
