The new Alien: Convenant trailer is here, and we’re given more of an insight on the plot of the film, as well as a glimpse into the classic Alien horror that lies within the film.
The tailer reveals that the Convenant flight, which has Michael Fassbender’s character David aboard, is looking to colonize a new planet. The crew is made up of couples — who will work together to make this new planet ready for more humans. When they get to the planet they discover a wheat field. Things take a typical Alien-turn as someone on the crew makes the wrong move, and all hell breaks loose.
The film is a sequel to Scott’s Alien prequel, Prometheus, which was released in 2012. The film made solid money at the box office, but left audiences strongly divided. Many deriding the film for its runtime and connection to the Alien franchise, while others praised the film for its performances, taught storytelling, and the aforementioned connection to the Alien franchise.
In the trailer we see a number of the film’s stars including: Fassbender, Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Big Fish), Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down), Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic Beasts), Demian Bechir (The Bridge), Jussie Smollet (Empire), and Katherine Waterston (daughter of Law & Order’s Sam Waterson, and star of Fantastic Beasts). The cast also includes (and not seen in the trailer) James Franco, and Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce.
The film is directed by Ridley Scott, and written John Logan — the Oscar nominated screenwriter of Hugo, Gladiator, The Aviator, and Skyfall.
The film is scheduled for release on May 19. 2017.
