Pre-Trailer Thoughts: The first Kingsman film was surprise hit thanks to it’s stunning action sequences and clever use of dark humor courtesy of director Matthew Vaughn. Luckily Vaughn is back directing this sequel, which will now be an original story instead of something based off of Mark Millar’s original Secret Service comic. The surprising return of Colin Firth, by far one of the best parts of the first film, is an excellent addiction to a cast that has already brought on Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, and Jeff Bridges. Everything is in place for this to be a sequel that can greatly expand on the humor and action of the first film, but will they stick the landing? – JTM
Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5. The action has definitely been turned up to 11 this time around, looking more over the top and more inventive than before. I’m just hoping they don’t get too far in over their heads and wind up encroaching from “over the top” into “goofy” which is a common problem among action sequels. The prospect of an American spy organization that is entirely made up of cowboys seems like a lot of fun through, and the trailer is definitely amping up the fact that Colin Firth’s character is making a return that surprises everybody. – JTM
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. I discovered the first Kingsman film way after it left theaters when I found it on streaming. I’ll likely do the same for the sequel, but this is definitely the sort of film I would have no objections to seeing if friends wanted to check it out in theaters. – JTM
