Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 Premiere Plot Summary:

With the help of Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski), Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) turns the table on the Reverend (Jon Hamm), who is asking her for a divorce. Meanwhile, Titus (Tituss Burgess) auditions for a role and Lillian (Carol Kane) breaks up with her boyfriend.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt does not float around my mind when I am not watching it. I could throw out a long list of shows and movies that I constantly am thinking about and or quoting, but Kimmy Schmidt doesn’t make the cut. I never think, “I really want to watch Kimmy Schmidt right now,” and yet, when the new season premieres, I watch it in its entirety in about a day.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, though it has had its fair share of problems, is hilarious and full of quotable material. The characters are wonderfully eccentric and memorable. This is the conundrum I face with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. While I watch the show, I wholeheartedly love it. The second I’m finished, I don’t think about it again.

So, of course, “Kimmy Gets Divorced?!” is an excellent episode. The Reverend hounds Kimmy for a divorce from prison. She is about to give in when Jacqueline gives Kimmy some power back. This results in the audience getting a whole lot more of Jon Hamm, which is never ever a bad thing.

Kimmy and the Reverend go back and forth on the phone for most of the episode. She jerks him around, lists a whole bunch of stuff she’s doing that he can’t, and even brings up go-karting *gasp*. Kemper and Hamm have a good chemistry onscreen and a similar comedic timing that makes these scenes shine. Kemper also has one of the most expressive faces ever and this carries a lot of her comedy gold as she delivers one-liners.

Kimmy has also passed her GED. Her next step is college, but at the end of the episode she finds out how much even the cheapest college education will cost and decides to use this divorce to her monetary gain. Season 3 is hopefully going to be seeing a lot more of Hamm as the Reverend.

Titus is home early from his cruise show. He appears asleep in the surf, only to awaken and get into a verbal altercation with a seagull. This is the best and most classic way to welcome Titus into Season 3. Titus is evolving slowly as a character and it is interesting to watch. He is determined to make his boyfriend Mikey (Mike Carlsen) proud, and since he lost all his checks from the cruiseship, he must find another way to make money. His plan is to get a role on Sesame Street.

Unfortunately, after all this upward movement Titus sees Mikey with another guy. I am curious to see what this is going to do for his character evolution as well as his story arc for this season. Titus is an amazing character and I hope he won’t go to waste in a poor storyline.

As always, I enjoyed watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I am undoubtedly going to finish this new season by the end of the weekend. Will I be quoting any of it next week? Probably not. Will I remember to include it on a recommendation list in a month? Also probably not. While it is on my mind though, I urge you to check out the third season and laugh your face off.
