Review: Harley Quinn #24

By: Sheena Fisher

We pick up right where we left off. Harley is middle of kicking Sportsman’s face. Clock King is still annoyed that they just had to pick a boat where Harley Quinn decided they should. She seems to annoy him to no end. Goat Boy and Harley’s family react in a great fashion to give back-up to our heroine. Anti-heroine? Heroine type thing.

Sportsman throws a hockey puck at Harley which releases a net and entangles her. Sportsman informs her that the more she moves, the tighter it becomes. And, that the net will eventually turn her into mince-meat. As she struggles we discover that her dad bought a black market gun. He decides to come up with a heroic plan. Goat Boy and Harley’s pops react quickly to save our struggling heroine type thing. Through some dashing heroics the boys lead Clock King and Sportsman near the edge of the ship.

Where’s Harley’s mom during all of this? No worries, she is at the edge of the ship as Goat Boy and her hubby leap over the railing. As Clock King and Sportsman round the corner she aides by flinging them into the ocean. Pretty good teamwork between the three of them. After Harley is safe she is interviewed and praised by the local news stations. They even go so far as to call her a Guardian Angel.

Things finally calm down and our squad gets to sit down and enjoy all those desserts they ordered. Since Harley saved the ship from getting robbed their meal is on the house. It’s time for Harley’s parents to return home. Harley and her mom have a great moment talking about Mr. J and all the terrible things he did in the past. We learn that Harley’s mom is brave and yelled at him over many things as any mother should do.

After a tearful goodbye Harley is asked to help organize a surprise party for her friend Sy. Looks like she gets to distract him at a local bath house while her friends take over her apartment for the event. That’s the end of our main arch. But, something interesting to mention, there’s a mysterious lady snooping around in a car talking to Mr. Cobblepot on the phone.

Onto our next tale, Harley Loves Joker. In our last issue Harley and Jenna were nearly done with the headquarters. Harley had planned this as a surprise for Mr. J. He’s still clueless and was trying to set up his own thing with The Penguin. We start this issue with Harley trying to kill Jenna who is charging 3mil for the construction and design work. Jenna has an “insurance plan” in place though. Jenna installed bombs all over the new headquarters. She plans on blowing the place up in 7 days if Harley doesn’t pay. Harley goes straight to work in an attempt to pay off Jenna, and yes her work is crime related. Joker is getting concerned about all the secrets Harley has been keeping lately…

Ok so in this issue we learn that The Penguin has something going on in our main arch. We also saw Red Tool talking to Poison Ivy in the last issue so things are getting interesting. Maybe we’ll see a bunch of Gotham villains duking it out? Maybe teaming up? I’m not sure but I’m excited either way. Lacking action and a little slow, but still a strong and fun read. My rating 7.5/10 Stars.
