The battle in Autobot City continues as Metrotitan shields Earth from the Junkion-piloted Quintesson ship. G.I. Joe forces team up with Optimus Prime and the Autobots to repel the attack, but not without casualties, both in the literal and figurative sense. Literal fatalities, and some questioning of moral compass from those close to Optimus.
The parallels continue with the flashbacks to when Optimus teams with Jetfire and Prowl to investigations into Decepticon activity, which leads to some interesting juxtaposition of the current relationship between Optimus Prime and Soundwave.
The “Wolverine” of the series, Arcee gets her inevitable spotlight in the issue, confronting Wreck Gar over a device which may be the key to future aid.
Nice comedy spot with the mention of “The Sacred Voice of Weirral” which is a reference to Weird Al Yankovic, who was the original voice actor of Wreck-Gar.
Kei Zama’s artwork has grown on me, and I have noticed improvements in the visibility of panels and details in the art. Josh Burcham’s colors are bright in the modern story and enhance Zama’s gritty scene with darkness and suspense. John Barber continues his intricate tale of Optimus and his path to protecting Earth by integrating the planet into a larger universal picture.
