If you recall at the end of issue #30 Harley Quinn was pretty close to leading the polls. Things were looking up in her relationship with Mason. And, we saw just how wonderful Poison Ivy is. Ivy loves and supports Harley through all of this and just wants her to be happy even though it’s clear she’s still got a flame burning for Harley. DePerto and Berkowitz had tried like hell to assassinate Quinn to no avail. They are now out to hurt Harley in any way possible. So, they hired some thugs to abduct Mason, and in issue #31 he paid the ultimate price.
This issue picks up with Harley Quinn and Harley Sinn surrounded by a couple DePerto and Berkowitz’s goons. The girls are bruised and bloodied, and Harley is out for blood. DePerto is communicating with the thugs in real time so he can see what they do to Quinn and Sinn. He gives the orders to kill them, turns off the monitor, and decides to de-stress while getting a massage. Guess he doesn’t have the stomach to see his orders played out.
Berkowitz on the other hand was looking forward to seeing them die, and wants very badly to watch. While she and DePerto bicker back and forth the thugs are planning exactly how to kill our ladies. They decide to torture Sinn slowly and take Quinn out quickly since she’s been really good at staying alive lately. Quinn begs them to shoot her in the neck instead of the face. She claims she wants to leave a pretty face for her pops, and shockingly they listen.
Quinn is laying in a puddle of blood while they tie up Sinn and contemplate on which body part(s) to cut off first. Thankfully while the goons and Sinn argue back and forth Quinn is coming to. We see her silhouette as she walks up behind goon #1 and she doesn’t hold back. Quinn shoots to kill, multiple times. Then she beats the hell out of goon #2 and restrains him while freeing Sinn. You thought Harley Quinn was dead? Well, if you pick up this issue you will learn exactly why she isn’t, and if you’ve been paying attention to past issues you already know why.
Harley Quinn leaves Sinn to babysit the goon since she’s a bloody mess and can’t be of much help. Sinn wants badly to help Quinn, but agrees she’s not in good enough shape to. As Harley is driving to DePerto’s she calls Madame Macabre and breaks the terrible news to her about her son Mason. Ivy picks up and reminds Harley the army is fully read to back her and to be careful. Harley hangs up by saying “I love ya too.”
From here we can see Berkowitz turned the monitor back on. She admits she’s getting turned on by the violence, but her mojo stops flowing quickly as she sees Harley get back up. She warns DePerto who locks himself in a safe room filled with body guards, and pushes her out the door while firing her. I can’t believe it’s taken him this long to be genuinely afraid of Harley Quinn. Berkowitz is terrified because she’s seen how ruthless Harley Quinn can be. She knows it’s only a matter of time before Quinn arrives. Berkowitz knows she is a sitting duck.
I don’t want to spoil the end of this issue by telling you what happens next. I’m sure you have a pretty good idea, but it’s just so much better to uncover this one for yourself. The last two issues were building up to this point. Berkowitz and DePerto have had a target on Harley Quinn’s back for some time. And, it’s all led to this point. I can say that I personally liked the way this tale ends. Everything is fitting for each of the characters. And, of course I didn’t want Mason to die, but I think his death really helped fuel the level of revenge we get to see from Harley. Pick up this issue at your local comic shop.
