The year is winding down, which means new music is a little fewer in quantity than normal. Not to say that quality is dropping at all because clearly it isn’t. This week I’ve got Windhand‘s smoky new song, The Atomic Bitchwax‘s truckload of incredible riffs, Corrosion Of Conformity continuing to bring the rock with Pepper Keenan, and Harm’s Way topping things off with a real skull crusher.
Windhand – “Old Evil”
Windhand is not a band that’s jumping genres and surprising fans with each release. Windhand does what Windhand does and crushes it every single time. “Old Evil” is that fuzzy, sludgy, cavernous Windhand sound that you’ve come to know and love over the past few years sounding just as good as ever, because again – that’s just what they do infalliably.
Windhand will continue to be one of my favorite sludge bands with its split with Satan’s Satyrs come February 16.
The Atomic Bitchwax – “Shell Of A Man”
I’m never going to shut up about how good The Atomic Bitchwax is until everyone acknowledges that I am right. The Atomic Bitchwax‘s new album Force Field just hit stores and after quite a few listens to the promo, I have determined two things – it’s absolutely one of the best albums of 2017 and “Shell Of A Man” has one of the best choruses I’ve heard in a while.
Revel in the glory of The Atomic Bitchwax and then buy Force Field. Do it.

Corrosion Of Conformity – “Wolf Named Crow”
Corrosion Of Conformity with guitarist and vocalist Pepper Keenan is picking right back up where it left off with 2005’s In The Arms Of God and it rules. “Wolf Named Crow” is a little more bluesy than the debut single, though I feel like that’s a big part of the allure of Corrosion Of Conformity – blistering heaviness with a serious blues twinge.
No Cross No Crown is out on January 12.
Harm’s Way – “Human Carrying Capacity”
Harm’s Way is back in 2018 with its new album Posthuman, which I believe is named due to the album’s apparent ability to destroy every listener who dares hit play. “Human Carrying Capacity” is likely named for a similar reason – how many crushing riffs can we lay down on someone before they collapse?
