Pop Break Live: SWMRS, The Interrupters, The Regrettes and Mt. Eddy play Philly’s Theatre of Living Arts
Words & Photos by Cathy Poulton
Four young California bands stormed the TLA on South Street on a cold mid-December night. SWMRS, The Interrupters, The Regrettes, and Mt. Eddy came, saw, conquered, and showed the City of Brotherly Love, what the new face of rock looks like.
(And it really shouldn’t come as a surprise, two of the bands, SWMRS and Mt. Eddy include the sons of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.)
It was a high energy performance from start to finish and the rising stars won over the Philadelphia crowd from the moment they said hello.
All four acts all had a unique sound where they incorporated different types of punk with pop, alternative and ska. It had everything you’d expect from a punk show like non-stop moshing, circle pits, dancing and sing along anthems. The vibe at the venue was a happy one and the chemistry between the crowd was incredible but even more obvious was the general comradery between the fans and each other. It was sort of a love feast. I know it’s been said a million times but music really does bring people together.
Overall it was a really exhilarating performance. It was one of those special shows where the energy in the room was so off the charts that after leaving the show sleep was not really not an option. What a night!
