Pop Break Live: Soraia at Milkboy in Philadelphia – September 2017
We love local bands on The Pop Break.
Sure, we’ve shot many of the biggest and best bands in the land at arenas, festivals, clubs, and stadiums around the country — but our backbone has always been with the up-and-coming bands. The bands grinding it out in the small club scene.
In late September, Pop Break photographer Cathy Poulton ventured to Milkboy, a renowned original music venue in the heart of Philadelphia to check out the band Soraia.
Soraia has received praise from iconic E Street guitarist Steven Van Zandt’s hit radio show, “Little Steven’s Underground Garage” who said they had the “#1 “Coolest Song in the World” in 2016.
Legendary music journalist David Fricke describes their new music as “searing guitars, burning soul and true CBGB grit: Soraia are the rock you need, in your face now!”
When the band got together at Milkboy on September 23, it was for the record release party for their album Dead Reckoning which dropped on October 13.
This female fronted band, lead by Zou Zou Mansour, ripped through songs from their upcoming release that no doubt thrilled the room full of family, friends and fans who had come to celebrate with them. It was an impressive high octain emotionally charged rock and roll show! No doubt they have garnered new fans on each one of their tour stops.
