Pop Break Live: G. Love & Special Sauce at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
There are certain artists who are synonymous with a state, or city. For instance, Bruce Springsteen and Asbury Park, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and California, Nelly and St. Louis.
When you think of Philadelphia, you think of G. Love & Special Sauce. The band has been crafting songs blending hip-hop, blues, rock, and soul for the past quarter century. Hits like “Cold Beverage,” “My Baby’s Got Sauce,” and “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” (which was featured in the 2005 Coke Zero ad campaign) have made them a staple in so many scenes. G. Love has also found success as a solo artist. Signed to Jack Johnsn’s Brushfire Records, he’s dropped four records, including the phenomenal Avett Brothers produced, Fixin’ to Die.
On Saturday night February 3, the band took the stage at The Fillmore in Philadelphia to commemorate 25 years. Since it was right before the Super Bowl, the band lead the crowd in a rousing rendition of “Fly Eagles Fly” before breaking into a retrospective set.
Pop Break’s Matt Heasley caught the band in action.
