Walking Dead Season 8, Episode 15 ‘Worth’

With the threat of the Saviors still looming, Aaron (Ross Marquand) continues searching for allies; Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) take action and confront an old friend.

Was this episode worth the time to stay up and tune into? For the most part I’d say so, there were plenty of intense moments and twists that occurred during this episode that kept me up and tuned in.

The episode started with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) reading Carl’s (Chandler Riggs) letter, and it was heartfelt. The letter attempts to make change and bring peace to Rick, the hilltop, and the saviors. Michonne (Danai Gurrira) notices Negan’s letter and Rick’s Walkie Talkie in a drawer, before the credits appear. We won’t see that story arch come back till the end of the episode, so next we have Simon (Steven Ogg) confronting Gregory (Xander Berkeley), and telling him he’s in charge since Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was still MIA.

Now onward to the least exciting moment of tonight’s episode, Aaron trying to survive out in the woods, still trying to recruit the Oceanside community. That whole segment felt like filler, that could have been cut out, so we could of seen more from the Saviors.

Speaking of Saviors, Negan came back with a vengeance, at the Sanctuary. He doesn’t confront Simon about the trash people, but he did confront him about the hilltop failure. He lets it slide, and then tells the group about his plan for the next day: going to some specific locations, marked on the map, supplied with ammo from Eugene’s Bullet warehouse. Afterwords they would snipe anyone from the hilltop that try to leave from there. Simon thinks all is well, so he then secretly decides to recruit Dwight and some others to take Negan out.

Negan kills Simon’s accomplices, except for Dwight (Austin Amelio), and then fights Simon, and wins by snapping Simon’s neck. As the two were fighting, Dwight sends Gregory on his way back to the hilltop, to give Rick the plans for the Hilltop massacre. As the fight ended, Negan approaches Dwight and recruits him to be his number two man. That didn’t last long because it turns out Laura (Lindsley Register) made her way back to the Sanctuary, and told Negan about Dwight betraying them. However, Negan already knowing this, made sure the plan he told everyone, was a trap, and knew that Dwight would make sure it made its way to Rick somehow, he just didn’t realize Dwight had Gregory deliver it to Rick.

Eugene (Josh McDermitt) noticed some faulty ammo recently made, and decides to go outside and test them out, but gets kidnapped by Rosita and Darryl. On their way out, Eugene broke free from Rosita, and hid in some ashes as Darryl and Rosita thought he went further away from them.

My favorite segments from the show tonight was obviously Negan setting things right at the Sanctuary, and then at the end of the episode, responding to Michonne’s call on the Walkie Talkie. She reads Carl’s letter to him, and instead of him getting all mushy about it, he says there’s no stopping him now on killing them all to start things over.  Watching those moments were what kept me up late to see how it went down. If it showed anymore of Oceanside, I probably would of fell asleep, and not been able to finish this review. Looking forward to see how this ends next Sunday, during the season finale.

Rating: 6 out of 10.
