Spoilers from previous issues will be revealed in this review. Please wait to read this review if you’re not caught up.
At the end of Issue #8 Molly and Graymercy were desperate to help Adrian. Molly had the bright idea to go back to the therapist for regression therapy. If you recall Leo told them that he believes most people have a connection because they’ve met in a past life. Leo was Molly’s friend that helped them uncover the origin of the symbol. It’s obvious that Molly, Graymercy, and Adrian have their stories intertwined. And, it seems that connection has been there for a very long time.
So, this issue picks up right there. Molly and Det. Graymercy are in the middle of regression therapy. They’re deep in a trance and the connections are finally made. This is where we learn how they’re all connected to Sutter. It’s as if everyone has been transported back in time. A story unfolds, Sutter and a child named Wilhelm are trying to get somewhere deep within what appears to be a sewage system.
Wilhelm has no fear of Sutter and is trying to help him. Sutter leads the child deeper into the underground passage. The child only seems to worry about Sutter and his hands that are now scratched up. Sutter assures Wilhelm that he is fine.
While Graymercy and Molly are in a trance we see two new characters that are in hot pursuit of Sutter. Their names are Faith and Alban. This team is working together to end the cult Sutter is in once and for all. They’re crawling through the sewers and are certain they’ve located Sutter’s hiding place. They find traces of Sutter’s movement, and successfully locate him and Wilhelm.
While this is all going on we see Adrian back at the cult’s campgrounds. Adrian is still imprisoned, and seems to be going back and forth between Adrian and Sutter. The strangest thing is that Adrian seems to be reliving this part of Sutter’s past. It’s as if all three of them are experiencing this event all over again, simultaneously. Is it possible for Adrian to really pick up on Molly and Graymercy in their current state? Will this send Adrian over the edge to fully awakening the demon?
The visuals in this comic are beyond scary. There’s some things I didn’t even begin to explain. I want you to be just as creeped out as I was while reading this. As usual I try to leave things as spoiler-free as I can. So, just in case my synopsis had you worried that this issue isn’t creepy. Trust me, it is.
Another thing I didn’t go into is who was who in the past life regression. Sometimes things aren’t always as straight-forward as they seem. Remember, Temperance is now Wilson after all. And, of course Sutter is Adrian. Vastly different outward appearances for both. Things aren’t always what they appear to be, and Regression does a great job of conveying that.
