Steel Panther Brings The Sunset Strip to The City of Brotherly Love

Pop Break Live: Steel Panther at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia PA

When Steel Panther comes to town, the look of the people milling about tends to change. More band t-shirts, tight black jeans as far as the eye can see, and even a select few in leather and spandex. This is nothing compared to the energy inside the lights go down and the first riff hits you like a punch in the chest. Steel Panther brought their “Sunset Strip” tour to the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia PA, and brought down the house.

Both myself and ThePopBreak.com are no stranger to Panther. I just witnessed my tenth Panther show at Starland Ballroom, and the band has welcomed The Pop Break into venues for interviews, pictures, and even a conversation about opening a spandex and beef jerky store (copyright pending).

But the Sunset Strip tour is an entirely different animal. Panther shows are normally chock full of original hits, deep cuts, and banter. For this tour, the band is going back to their roots with covers, Ozzy Osbourne impersonations, and guest musicians, all intertwined with the biggest original hits. If you have been lucky enough to see Steel Panther in Las Vegas, then you have seen this kind of show before. For the rest of us, this was a special treat that I’m glad we didn’t miss. It feels like an 80’s rock hangout; you and your buddies blasting the classics and jamming along. Though i suspect that there aren’t as many dancing women at your buddy’s place. I mean, I don’t know your life.

Even if you have seen Steel Panther once, twice, ten times, this is a fresh experience for seasoned fans, and a lot of fun for newer ones. The Sunset Strip tour is definitely a must-see experience.
