Review: Skyward #2

This review will have spoilers from Issue #1. If you haven’t read that issue please wait to read this review.

At the end of Skyward #1 Nathan blamed himself for the loss of gravity. He said that he knew this would happen. And, this issue starts off with him explaining just that. Willa listens to her father, but isn’t buying what he’s selling. She opens the door and her father panics. This is where we learn that Nathan hasn’t left the apartment in 20 years. Willa doesn’t have much faith that her father can save everyone if he can’t even leave their apartment.

She leaves for work and sees a big-wig on TV. His name is roger Barrow. As a result Willa wants to meet with Roger Barrow at an unveiling happening in the streets. Roger made a lot of money off of his knowledge of G-Day. Roger once worked with Willa’s dad, and it’s obvious they both knew G-Day was coming. This is where we find out quite a bit about Nathan’s past. And, of course who Roger Barrow is.

Willa wants to ask Roger some questions about the research he and her father did together. As Willa makes her way into the streets we find out a lot about how the world works now. The people that live in the streets are the big-wigs and celebrities. They have enough money to buy tech that allows them to live in gravity. These people quite literally pretend like G-Day never happened, and look down on the people that took to the skies. Irony much?

Willa comes up with a plan to Cinderella herself and get into the big unveiling. But, there is a snag in her plan. Remember the gun trick from issue #1 that the sky dwellers use in case they drift too far? Well, Willa always has a gun on her as a result. As she’s trying to blend in and sneak into the big unveiling she deals with some conflict over carrying a gun on her hip. Security calls the cops and Willa has to flee.

I don’t want to reveal too much more of the story from this point in order to avoid spoiling this issue. I also avoided describing some juicy information from the past. You’ll have to pick up this issue to see if Willa is able to meet with Roger. Also to see some of the direct after-math of G-Day. Oh, and of course to learn more about Nathan and Roger. There’s something very interesting going on there. Issue #2 of Skyward did a wonderful job bringing further life to a planet without gravity.
