The episode started with the sound of Becca crying and looking over photos of herself with Arie. There was a short recap of what happened to Becca during the end of Arie’s season. For anyone not in the loop, Arie had originally chosen Becca as the winner of his (the previous) season, but a few months after his decision he changed his mind, dumped Becca, and went back to Lauren. Arie received a lot of backlash for his actions. The state of Minnesota even banned Arie from Minnesota for life.

Becca drove a beautiful cherry red Ferrari to the bachelor/bachelorette mansion where she met up with three previous Bachelorettes, Kaitlyn, JoJo, and Rachel to talk about what happened between her and Arie. Rachel says, “Please don’t edit this out, but f**k him!” and all the girls laugh. They all decide to sage the mansion to get rid of the bad omens it previously held. An interesting tidbit that the three other girls brought up is that they all kissed their now husbands on the first night of their own seasons. There seems to be a genuine sisterhood between the girls, which gave Becca a bit more confidence

The first look we see of the male contestants is some backstory on a handful of them. A lot of the men in the season seems to be very genuine with different personalities. Some play sports, some own businesses, and at least one of them is a model.

Cast of The Bachelorette

Chris Harrison talks to Becca and asks what fears she has for this season She basically said she’s afraid of history repeating itself. She’s afraid a man will change their mind about her.

The first limo approaches.

The first man we see is Colton. Colton hands her a confetti gun and uses the phrase “I hope we get this poppin” which was followed by a shower of confetti and laughter. She seemed super happy and asked if she could keep her confetti gun. Hopefully it comes up again later in the season.

Grant is next. He told her that he gave her a lot of respect for what she went through. It was nice that is was one of the simpler introductions.

Clay was after him. “I caught a lot of passes in my day but if I caught you I’d be set for life” which was very cute and romantic.

Jean Blanc walked up and wanted to teach Becca French. He teaches her to say, “Let’s do the damn thing!” in French, which got her laughing. She mentioned that he’d have to teach her some more French later.

Connor asked Becca to close her eyes and when she did, he got on a knee and opened a ring box. Inside the ring box it said “Let’s do the damn thing.”

Joe from Chicago came out and got a bit of stage fright. He forgot everything he was planning to say to her, so hopefully that doesn’t work against him.

Leo the stuntman comes out with a top bun and decides to ‘Let his hair down’ and proceeds to take it out. Becca was in awe of Leo’s long, luscious hair.

Jordan comes out and was ‘Already having a great time’ and was wearing ‘great shoes.’

Nick comes up wearing a racecar suit and takes a jab at Arie. He basically said “Who would ever wear anything like this” as he pulled it off to reveal a rather dapper suit underneath.

Mike comes up with a cardboard cutout of Arie. He drops a line about how Arie deserves to see Becca as happy tonight as she is, which wasn’t an awesome line to drop.

Garrett comes ripping in driving a minivan. He talks about wanting to be a good dad, which really plays into the minivan joke. “Oh my God that was good” said Becca as Garrett walked into the mansion.

Blake drove in on a bull. Blake was on After the Final Rose and he was the one who brought the horse to the stage. His feelings are now “As strong as an ox” and Becca thinks the ox is a cutie.

Lincoln from After the Final Rose brought some cake with him since when he showed up during After the Final Rose it was his birthday.

Ryan from After the Final Rose didn’t bring his banjo, which I think Becca was looking forward to.

Jason teaches Becca a secret handshake.

Kamil does this weird 50/50 thing where he asks Becca to meet him in the middle. It made sense and showed that both people would have to work to make a relationship work. This analogy stopped working when he attempted to get Becca to walk closer to him to get her to go 60/40, to which she replied by asking him to walk closer but neither budged.

Jake from Minneapolis apparently previously met her. He’s an “acquaintance” and Becca seems a little awkward about the whole thing.

Trent pulled up in a hearse, popped out and said, “When I heard you were The Bachelorette I literally died” which made her laugh and made some of the other men groan.

David came out in a chicken suit clucking “Be-CAW” and said he’s hoping not to ruffle any feathers. He said he just wants to put a smile on her face.

Chris brought a gospel choir with him. They sang a song about getting a rose. Becca was dancing and seemed to really be enjoying it.

All 28 of the limo Introductions are finally over.

Chris Harrison comes by and gives Becca the basic laydown of the rules. He told Becca to spend the night mingling but at some point, she would have to hand out the first impression rose.

Becca comes into the house and talks about how her last relationship didn’t work and how she has a good feeling about how her relationship with the guys would work out.

After the toast, Connor popped up out of nowhere and stole Becca. They both talked about how excited they were to be in this scenario.

Clay eventually pulled Becca away and said the easiest way she could remember his name is if they played with clay and made each other. It was a cute, memorable way for Becca to remember Clay and his name.

Christon dunks right over Becca. He got her to spin the ball on her finger. After showing her a few tricks, a few of the other guys come out to play the game and just take some shots.

Some of the men teach Becca how to dance. Some of the men read her poems. A lot of the men just used their time with her to tell their own backstories. Garrett was teaching Becca to do fly fishing and he gave her a fly fishing lure. She said that she feels Garrett is someone who would fit right in with her family.

Then, some drama starts. Chris tells some of the other guys in the house that Chase might not be there for the right reasons. He mentioned that Chase’s ex text messaged him the night of the After the Final Rose episode that Chase appeared upon. She told him that Chase wasn’t there for the right reasons. Chris decides to pull Chase to the side to talk to him about it. Chase told Chris that his relationship with the girl was so long ago that he dated for so short of a time period.

By this point of the episode, Chris had not told anything to Becca and didn’t intend to. Chase ended up going to and telling Becca himself that there was this drama in the house. Becca, obviously, asked for some minor clarifications and this small scenario blew up so much than it needed to. After Chris told his peace to Becca about what happened, he was asked to leave by Chase, and Chase finished up talking to Becca alone. Becca called this whole interaction strange. This scenario opens Becca’s eyes that some of the men might not be there for the right reasons.

Becca calls Jake out and asks to have a one on one with him. She’s curious with him because they are previous acquaintances, but Jake never had shown any interest in her. Becca mentions not being 100% comfortable with him being there since she felt like she would be questioning their relationship through the whole time which wouldn’t feel right to her. She said she couldn’t see a future with him. And with that, Jake is the first man to go home. The men are simultaneously happy and afraid that Jake was sent home. They were happy because it’s one less man to compete with. They were afraid because it showed how serious Becca is about this competition.

Here’s a fun fact: 52% of contestants who got a first impression roses in previous seasons made it to the final four. (credit: fivethirtyeight.com) Garrett got the first impression rose. He also received the first kiss on the lips from Becca.

Preview of the upcoming season:

The previews for this season show Becca in a lot of fun scenarios, like hiking, or her on a tire swing. They show her having a closer relationship with a bunch of the guys. We see a clip of Colton confessing his love to Becca, but we don’t see her response. We see Becca crying and saying that one of the guys did to her what Arie did to her. The men call out Lincoln, they call out Jordon, and they make a few claims towards Colton. Clips are shown of someone being taken away in a stretcher and an ambulance. At the end of the preview, Becca says that she’s in love with two guys and she genuinely seemed upset about it. I have an idea of who the Final 2 could be, but anything could happen on this season of The Bachelorette.
