Prelude to the Wedding Harley VS. Joker is written by Tim Seely, illustrated by Sami Basri, and published by DC comics.
Part five has the subtitle Harley Vs. Joker. So, I’m sure you can expect what you will see inside this issue. Previous issues have had other battles between beloved characters and so far I’ve dug them. Now it’s Harley’s turn. But, does this issue hold up and fall in line with the ongoing tales?
You would have to live under a rock to miss that the Joker is really upset that Bats hasn’t invited him to his wedding. I mean, they do have a pretty intimate relationship. Batman does unload a lot of his personal feelings about life and insanity on the Joker. So, it’s easy to get why he would have it in his head that they’re close…I wouldn’t quite say friends.
Joker has been laying low trying to worm his way into the wedding. This issue begins with us finding his latest hiding place. And, somehow Harley knows exactly where he is. In case you missed it, Harley is in the wedding party. She is a romantic at heart and loves love. Harley doesn’t want anything to stand in the way of Catwoman and Batman’s wedding.
Harley knows that somehow the Joker will just ruin the entire wedding. Harley can’t have that. She wants to live vicariously through the bat and cat. She wants to feel like a princess. She must stop the Joker. Imagine if you will, how Harley would do that.
Obviously I don’t want to spoil her creative torture techniques. But, let’s face it, Harley knows the Joker better than anyone else. She knows exactly what gets under his skin. The real question is will Harley be successful in taking down the Joker? Will her meticulously planned death trap work in her favor?
I liked the banter between Harley and Joker in this issue a lot. They work better separated than together in my personal opinion. The torturous things Harley comes up with to annoy Joker are pretty funny. What else would you expect from her? Oh, and as usual Harley’s costumes are spot on to what’s happening in the tale. I can see a lot of future cosplays from this issue in particular from Harley Quinn fans. This issue lived up to my expectations.
