The Walking Dead Season 9 trailer dropped this afternoon at San Diego Comic Con.

If you’re a fan of the show — it’s got everything you want — the building tension between Team Rick and Team Maggie, new characters, mass walker slayings, over-the-top action sequences, and drama drama drama.

If you’ve become disillusioned with the show — it’s got everything you’re dreading — the building tension between Team Rick and Team Maggie, new characters, mass walker slayings, over-the-top action sequences, and drama drama drama.

Jokes aside…

The Walking Dead Season 9 trailer shows us that the human conflict will be the major dramatic arc of the season while The Walkers remain a constant threat, and the center of the action for the series.

The series definitely has some new set pieces — including a camp where Rick and company live, and a major city where a number of the big walker action pieces take place.

We also see some new cast members, most notably Dan Fogler of Fantastic Beasts fame, and Eleanor Matsuura of AMC’s Into the Badlands.

We also saw the return of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan — how many episodes he will be in is still up in the air.

The tension between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) with Rick (Andrew Lincoln), and Micchone (Danai Gurrira) is still very palpable. The trailer smartly played a “do they hate or like each other” vibe throughout, and the editing emphasized that huge.

Either way, at the end of the day, The Walking Dead’s mantra of “humans are the worst” is definitely here to stay.

The Walking Dead Season 9 returns to AMC in October.
