Surrender your will to all 11 episodes of the 7th season of one of TV’s most terrifying series. It is post-election 2016, and Ally Mayfair-Richards (Emmy® winner Sarah Paulson*), a Michigan woman plagued by phobias, attempts to find happiness as a restaurateur alongside her chef wife (Alison Pill) and son. But Ally’s family —and her grip on reality —are threatened by the arrival of Kai Anderson (Evan Peters), a politically motivated cult leader who’s plotting an unthinkable mass murder. Also starring Cheyenne Jackson and Billie Lourd, American Horror Story: Cult is a scrumptious scare-fest served up with social commentary, pinky swearing, clown suits and gas lighting.
American Horror Story: Cult takes place after the election of Donald Trump to the American presidency. The season focuses on the after effects of the election on both the right and left sides of the political spectrum and the extremes people are willing to go to defend their rights when they feel threatened.
Many people found the season tough to watch in a political climate that was already troublesome for many. Some found the show tough to watch because it portrayed their political leanings in a bad light. Others just enjoyed the show for what it was, a way to show how frightening the world really is.
As for myself, I found it tough to get through the first episode or two as it was mostly just Sarah Paulson screaming and crying, but the show did pick up once her character grew a backbone. If you can get yourself to episode three, I promise you that it becomes worth the watch.
Whatever your thoughts were on the season, the show remains successful and the season resulted in two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Sarah Paulson) and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Adina Porter).
