Review: The Walking Dead, ‘Obliged’ Sets Up the Series for Rick’s Death

Well it’s Sunday night, so that means the new episode of The Walking Dead is on. Personally I was more interested in wanting to play more Red Dead Redemption 2 than watch The Walking Dead. but my batteries were about to die on my controller so it was like a sign that I needed to stop playing, and watch the episode.

The episode was entertaining with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) heading to Alexandria to kill Negan. Meanwhile, Rick was trying to keep Carol (Melisa McBride) and the others around to help out with the bridge. Then he tries to stop Maggie from reaching to Alexandria. Darryl (Daryl Dixon) offers to take him there, but then it ends up with Rick and him fighting, and falling into a big hole in the ground.

Meanwhile at Alexandria, Michonne (Danai Gurrira) tries to get Negan to eat his food. However, he refuses to eat unless she talks to him. During their chat, he tells her that they’re not so different, but Michonne doesn’t want to admit that. Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) was almost killed/sacrificed by Anne (Pollyana McIntosh), until she doesn’t go through with it, and then knocks him out again, and leaves him at the junkyard.

Overall the episode was interesting. The highlights were definitely the brawl between Rick and Darryl, and Michonne’s scene with Negan. This episode almost felt like a season finale with the ending of Rick falling off his horse and getting impaled on a piece of rebar, as a zombie herd is approaching him.

Next week’s episode is Ricks last episode. From the scenes AMC showed, it looks like we’ll see a flashback throughout the series with Rick reflecting on his life, as it’s about to end with him. This would have been perfect for a series finale episode. Unfortunately, this will happen in Episode 5..with three episodes to go after that.

I wonder after Rick’s gone from the show, how many people will stick with the show? It really depends on how next week’s episode goes for me to see if I care to watch this series as the Ricktatorship comes to an end.
