From Romero to Overlord: A Visual History of Zombies in Film

Dead Snow (2009)

Now a list of zombies throughout cinema truly wouldn’t be fit without the inclusion of a good old-fashioned Nazi zombie. Yes, even Adolf Hitler’s horrid army has come back from the dead to wreak havoc on the living world once more in the 2009 cult favorite Dead Snow. Here, zombies are decked out in Nazi attire after rising up through snow and hunting down vacationers in Norway.

For the film’s low budget of just $800,000, the film’s zombies actually look great and exude a terrifying presence as they run through the snow. There’s a great sense of detail put into them with dark, gray and decaying skin that feels frozen solid from being in the snow for so long. Even little battle scars on their faces and limbs have carried over. They bring some brutality that feel similar to Nazi treatment as they don’t just try to devour flesh, rather they stab, rip heads off, and dismember anyone in their path.

So for those Call of Duty fans wishing there was a Nazi zombie film out there to see, boy do I have the film for you.
