From Romero to Overlord: A Visual History of Zombies in Film

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)

A more comical entry into the zombie horror genre, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse used the iconic creatures for more gags and, oddly enough, sex jokes. Don’t get me wrong, these zombies are still terrifying and I actually love that they are a mix between both slow-moving and sprinting zombies. They seem more aware of their surrounding as they are able to open up doors (without having to break them down), and have more human reactions. These zombies can do a little more than just grab and bite as they can even be seen to punch and kick survivors to the ground.

Scouts Guide takes the genre another step further, maybe one step too far, by actually referring to the zombies in sexual ways and having them have genitalia. It’s kind of odd to think about and when you do think about it, it definitely sounds wrong, but it at least lead to some funny moments with zombies that ultimately aren’t seen much in the genre. So I guess that counts for something.
